Haut les mains! unfolds as a logical sequence around Index, a gold-leafed wooden panel stating ten instructions whose underlying principles are dissected throughout the exhibition via a lexical field of colour, material, sound and image. From 1 to 5 is a set of five drawings paired with From 6 to 10, five monochromes, each built on a colour and/or material that forms the series it answers to.
Here gold is treated as the universal embodiment of the dominant paradigm: distorted, cracked, diverted from its function as a marker of prestige to carry a different symbolic economy.
